In small villages at the foot of the Deccan Plateau in India, where monsoons bring moist air from the Arabian Sea - that's where the story begins. Together with the farmers we grow top quality organic cotton, which requires 3 years of commitment. It takes that long to switch an inorganic field to an organic one.

インドでオーガニックコットン農家を育てる
インドはコットン栽培に適した地域です。2007年、私たちはインドのデカン高原の麓にある村々に訪れました。その貧しい農村では、コットン栽培に多くの農薬が使われ、そのために多額の借金をしたり、皮膚や内臓に健康被害が発生しています。私たちは2008年、“プレオーガニックコットンプログラム”を開始し、農薬を使わない栽培をおこない、3年かけて“オーガニックコットン”が栽培できるよう、技術的に、ビジネス的に支援しています。これまでに約1,500農家がオーガニックコットン農家になりました。
everloomでは、この移行したオーガニックコットンと、移行期間の無農薬コットンの双方を使用して、この地域の一層のオーガニック化と発展を目指します。
Raising Organic Cotton Farmers in India
India is an environmentally beneficial place to grow cotton. In 2007, we visited some villages at the foot of the Deccan Plateau to see with our own eyes the cotton farmers living in unprivileged conditions. In a small village where cotton was grown with use of agricultural chemicals, some people were facing serious financial problems, and some were suffering from diseases caused by those chemicals. We, in 2008, started the Pre Organic Cotton Program in order to change that situation, by supporting the farmers technically and financially during the three-year transit period to be certified as organic growers. Since the beginning of this program, around 1,500 farmers have shifted to organic methods. Through our “everloom” brand, we hope we could keep on contributing to this successful movement by introducing products made from our organic cotton and organic cotton in conversion.
